London Print Fair and writing new proposals

This week, Galerie Burkhard Eikelmann is presenting my serigraphs at the London Print Fair, April 23rd thru 27th. As the gallery is showing my work in the UK, I am writing and sending out proposals for new projects. These are ideas that will take a number of months to create and require sizable budgets. Once, I have all four projects drafted and sent out for review, I will begin painting once again. Also I have been catching up on day-to-day business which has gone neglected during my extended stay in New York City a couple of weeks prior. During my trip to the Big Apple, I visited European and American contacts who were in town for the Armory Art Fairs as well as a few museum blockbuster exhibitions and the Chelsea galleries. The break in New York has been very insightful, and I have renewed energy to create and tackle future projects.
As for my March show in the Lone Star State, I returned to Miami from Houston on the 12th after presenting my "Border Cruiser" at the ArtCar Museum for the Twelfth International Fotofest 2008 Biennial. The city-wide exhibition for film and video takes place in Houston every two years and this edition I was invited by the non-for-profit space to present my latest mobile video sculpture project as part of the group exhibition, ONLY YESTERDAY that will also feature the photography of Rania Matar, Marilyn Davenport, Ezekiel Solis, and a video by David Purdie. The Border Cruiser is on display from March 8th until April 27th, 2008. The project was well received at a number of events where I showed it as well as the opening night at the Art Car Museum where a few hundred people turned out.
As for other news, the Border Cruiser article in the Miami NewTimes that came out February 14th has generated a lot of interest in the work. I have had a number of people congratulate me on the story. I would like to thank Carlos Suarez de Jesus for taking interest in the project and his vivid and accurate description of events that unfolded that evening.
I have also posted to the website images from the photo series I shot this past Summer and Fall in New York City, Paris, Venice, and Rome of illegal immigrants who sell souvenirs and imitation merchandise to visiting tourists. The selection of images that I uploaded are just a sampling from the series as many cannot be posted on the web to protect the identity of those who were photographed. In addition, I have recently added two interviews that I did with a3tv to my YouTube channel. So if you have not had the opportunity to see them, please check them out. If you noticed the nice pictures of the Border Cruiser on the site, they are the work of Simon Hare who shot the Border Cruiser at various locations in Miami. Thanks again, Simon!
