Getting back to work
Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions. I am over a week late in updating my blog. Since I returned to Miami on Friday, September 12th, I have been catching up on neglected affairs after being gone for over 3 weeks as well as considering what am I going to be working on next. It seems whenever I am in the process of developing new ideas, I go into a funk until I am hit by inspiration. Now that inspiration has struck, I feel better and know exactly what I need to do. So currently, I am working to realize a number of new paintings. I have ideas for 5 or 6 works. This is good as it looks like I will be showing in Berlin at the end of October and ArtBasel Miami Beach is 11 weeks away.
My cross country trip in the Border Cruiser to present the project at both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions was productive and gave broader exposure of the project to many more people. During the Democratic National Convention, the project was displayed in front of Buffalo Exchange, the Museo de Arte Latin Americas, and driven around the streets of Denver. While driving the project, Senator John Kerry saw it and had to do a double take. Unfortunately, the light was green and I could not get over to the side of the street he was walking to give him a postcard explaining the project.
While in Denver, the car was written up in The Rocky Mountain News, Univision Online, Yahoo News, the Westword blog, and the Denver Post calender. It was also written up in The Twin Cities Daily Planet, The Minneasota Independent, the Twin Cities IndyMedia, and the Americans for Legal Immigration Forum.
The project was also the focus of a radio interview with journalist, Lakshmi Singh of "Latino USA" and broadcasted nationally on NPR.
Now that the excitement of the conventions are over and I am back home safely, I am going to hunker down in the studio and get to work. If you need to reach me, please send me an e-mail or call.
