Making art while visiting the world's museums
I put aside finishing up my studio this week and just focused on making art. I working on a commissioned toy soldier piece. I spent the week adhering toy soldiers to a wooden panel. The first layer is completed and now I have to start on the second layer which I plan to have done by the end of this upcoming week. The work is not so bad. As I am working, I am watching BBC art history documentaries on YouTube. So I am virtually going to the world's best museums and galleries and listening to leading contemporary artists talk about their work. It's like traveling and being able to work at the same time.
In addition to the commissioned piece, I also finished up some small studies on which I started earlier last week. The studies are a way to work out and test ideas before committing a large amount of time and materials that is needed for a larger work. My goal is to develop a new body of work that will be displayed in part if not all during ArtBasel Miami Beach which is December 5th thru 9th. So with 9 weeks to go, I have a lot of work ahead of myself.
