Working outdoors in record heat

This past week has been a very demanding physically. I am experimenting with incorporating a new material in my work. In order to process it so that I can use it, I have had to rent some heavy equipment. To use this equipment, I am having to drive an hour north from where I live to Pembroke Pines around 6 a.m. and work to 5 p.m. What has made the project even more difficult is that I am having to work outside and we are having record temperatures. The heat index has been hitting 105 daily. So needless to say, I have been exhausted. At least the process is working, and I am able to process a large amount of material in a relatively short period time that otherwise I would not have been able to do. So soon I plan to be making new works incorporating this material. I am sure you will like the results, so stayed posted.
As for this week, I have one more day with the machine. So one day this week, I will be back at Pembroke Pines. Otherwise, I will be busy in the cool air conditioned studio taking care of paperwork as well as getting started on some new pieces.

Learning as I go along

I am working with a new printing process to create works. The study that I attempted did not work out as well as I had hoped. So I am overcoming the learning curve, and I finding out what are the limitations of this new technique.
Also this week, I have made some progress with a new material that I want to start incorporating in my work. The difficulty has been how to process the material so that it can become part of a two dimensional work. I was discussing the problem with an artist friend and he suggested using an industrial machine. At first, I thought his idea was a bit far flung. However after doing some research, I discovered that it would not be that expensive to rent the machine. So on Thursday and Friday, I spent the entire day working to process the material. The results so far have been good, so I imagine it will take me a week to process everything that I have. So this upcoming week, I will be busy doing this. The work is hard, tedious as well as draining as I am having to work outside to do it. Although Fall has arrived in other parts of the world, it is still summer here with highs in the 90s and lots of humidity. I am looking forward to when this part is done so I can get back in the climate control studio and begin painting.
